Bored? Same. Here's some stuff to do during quarantine

Stuck at home and bored, struggling to find something to do? Don't worry, most people are. While it absolutely is a privilege to stay in the comfort of our own homes, the struggle to do something productive is real. So, to help out, here are some fun and interesting activities I can suggest for you to do to kill the time:

Workout From Home

It’s important for us to stay fit and healthy whether there’s a pandemic out there or not. Honestly, staying home has been quite a challenge since I had all the time to eat and basically be a slob but thank God for online workouts! It creates a balance to my current lifestyle of eating and slobbing and sleeping. I may not be able to go to the gym right now (or, let's be honest, to my favourite spin studio) but there are multiple activities we can all do at home even without equipment. A variety of studios offer home workouts and I’ve tried some of these workouts and they’ve helped me stay healthy and happy here at home. Visit Booky's list of fitness studios offering online classes here.

Try a New Recipe

Eating is something most, if not all, of us love to do! Why not spend time learning a new recipe or even bring back an old one. I’ve burnt some cookies, cooked a "meh" steak but I'm taking all these experiences and I'm trying to learn how to be a better home cook. A lot of my friends have been sharing their own home cooked meals, and with the amount of time they dedicate to learning and perfecting a recipe, honestly some of them could actually pass as restaurant quality dishes. Take this time to craft your cooking or baking skills and release your inner chef. And you get to eat!

Watch a TV Series

Didn’t have time to watch a series you loved before quarantine? Binge and enjoy your favorite shows now and catch up on those you’ve always wanted to finish. Maybe try watching a Korean Drama! If you haven't heard about Crash Landing on You, it's time to come out from that rock you've been living under. Or if you feel like watching a really good drama series, I suggest you watch one of my faves, Grey's Anatomy. (If you haven't watched it, it's at its 16th season, so it'll take up a lot of your time.)

Host a Netflix Party

Did you know you can watch Netflix with your friends but at the comfort of your own home? Create a Netflix Party and watch different movies, TV shows, and documentaries and feel as if you’re all together in the same room. All you need is Google Chrome and an internet connection! Download Netflix Party here.

Stay Connected Through Zoom

Yes, we all know people use Zoom for work from home meetings, but you can also use it to connect with your friends and family no matter the distance! Staying connected with my friends and family has definitely helped me keep my spirits up and honestly setting and having catch up sessions are some of the things I look forward to doing during quarantine. Being able to talk to your friends or family during this crisis really helps. Download the Zoom extension for Google Chrome here.

Learn a New Language Using Duolingo

Let's be real—that college-level Spanish you were so proud of? Abysmal. Luckily, Duolingo is here to help! Learn Spanish, French, and other languages through this app! I'm currently learning Spanish—and, honestly still not very good. But it's much better than being bored and knowing nothing at all.  And once this quarantine is over, maybe you can use that conversational Korean when you finally rebook that trip. Visit Duolingo's website here.

Take an Online Class

Learning never stops even if you’re at home. Take the opportunity to browse a variety of topics through free online courses! Gain skills from Ivy League professors and expand your knowledge at your own pace through online classes. I've been taking an Introduction to Marketing class from University of Pennsylvania, and after just a few videos, I can confidently put "Marketing Director" on my resume (I'm kidding. A little). 100% recommend you to try it out. You can find free online courses over at Class Central.

Tidy Up Your Room

Do you miss seeing the floor of your room? Now’s the perfect time to start cleaning. Fix your closet, organize your desk, check out the stuff that may have crawled its way under your bed—you never know what you might find. I'm not a person who enjoys cleaning (who does?) but since I have the time I tried my best to organize my things and I actually found some items I never knew I had. And, to be honest, having a clean room always just makes me feel more relaxed.

Read a Book

It’s always a great idea to read a book, no matter the genre. Use this quarantine to sit back, relax, and take a break from screens that aren't good for you anyway. I just started reading this book called Eleanor and Park, and while I haven't read far enough to make my own judgement, I've heard good reviews. If you're interested in reading, check out this list of free reading resources that the LA Times has compiled.

Sleep

This is something I personally love to do. On normal days I may not be getting enough sleep that I need ('Sup, Netflix?), but since I have the time, I spend it trying to catch up on some Zzzs. My sleep schedule is kinda messed up right now, as I sleep when the sun rises and wake up ready for lunch but I guess that's completely fine for me since I'm just at home.
